A. The Preo Print Study allows you to create and maintain an account at Preo. The communication between the Preo Print Study application and your account at Preo is carried out over the Internet using secure, encrypted https messages.

Q. What does “Unable to connect to Preo” mean when shown in the Print Study?

A. It means the Print Study cannot communicate with your account at Preo at this time. Your Print Study continues capturing print activity regardless of the ability to connect. All of your data remains intact and will get communicated to your account when the Preo Print Study application detects it can connect to Preo.

Q. Why does Windows ask “Allow this program to connect to the Internet”?

A. If you have a Firewall running it may prevent software on your computer from communicating over the Internet until you grant permission. You must allow Preo Print Study to connect to the Internet or you will be unable to run your own print studies.

Printers Being Tracked

Q. Why are only some of my printers tracked?

A. For efficiency reasons and ease of deployment Preo Print Study is designed to track only local printers. This includes physically attached printers and printers connected by TCP/IP ports. Our Enterprise product tracks all printers in your organization regardless of location or network topology.

Q. Which printers are not tracked?

A. Preo Print Study is designed to ignore all non-local printers. This includes network shares and printers carried into Citrix sessions and remote desktop connections. Please contact Preo Sales if you wish to monitor print in these environments as our Enterprise product tracks all printers in your organization regardless of location or network topology.

Q. What about “pseudo-printers” such as PDF Writer?

A. Known “pseudo-printers” such as PDF Writer and Microsoft Document Writer that do not directly produce output to a physical printer are not tracked as they do not impact print within your organization.
